Curriculum

✔️ Module 1 - Hypermobility & Co.
We started with covering the basics of hypermobility and its associated conditions to ensure we are all on the same page. This includes: Hypermobility, HSD, EDS, Dysautonomia, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, Upper Cervical Instability, and Myalagic Encephalomyelitis.

✔️ Module 2 - Assessment
Learn how to screen for and pick up signs of hypermobility in your subjective and objective assessment. We learn different assessments for hypermobility and questionnaires to quantify otherwise difficult to measure symptoms.

✔️ Module 3 - Nervous System
Learn the principles for treating Dysautonomia. We also learn practical autonomic nervous system regulation exercises to help with pain or Dysautonomia.

✔️ Module 4 - Pain Management
Learn two different models for pain management with hypermobility. Also learn joint mobilization and control this week.

✔️ Module 5 - Joint Stabilization
Learn joint stability exercises for all the major joints in the body.

✔️ Module 6 - Proprioception & Nerve Flossing
Learn different techniques to increase proprioception into a hypermobility rehab program to get better results. Also learn a minimum of 5 nerve flosses, one my favourite techniques to reducing pain in hypermobile people.

✔️ Module 7 - Strengthening Exercises
Learn how to cue strength training so that your hypermobile clients feel it in the right place and without pain.

✔️ Module 8 - Case Studies
Bring it all together to create a treatment plan for your client. Get advice for your cases from myself and other community members.

Who exactly is this program for?
  • You know that hypermobile people can benefit from a strengthening program but it feels like something is missing from their rehab program.

  • You have clients that are hypermobile or have Ehlers-Danlos (EDS) and you don’t know how to modify their treatment program.

  • You want to prioritize your clients’ autonomy and self-management of their symptoms. You don’t want your clients to become reliant on manual therapy techniques.

  • You look at the body as a whole system and are interested in how the nervous system affects pain, stability, and overall functioning.

  • You are committed to getting the best results for your clients and want to be part of a community that is committed to the same thing.

  • You are interested and excited about working with more hypermobile clients.

FAQs

Do you have to be a physiotherapist to join?

No, the course was designed to be targeted at physiotherapists but can be used and integrated by anyone who incorporates exercises as part of their treatment programs with clients. This includes but is not limited to chiropractors, occupational therapists, personal trainers, or kinesiologists.

How much time does the course take each week?

Each week, a new module is released to allow you time to integrate the principles of hypermobility with your patients right away without getting overwhelmed. I would recommend allocating 1.5 hours per week in order to finish the course within an 8 week time frame. However, you have lifetime access to the course so take as much time as you need to complete it.

Testimonials

"This course definitely changed how I’m going to practice (probably more than any other course), my assessment skills have improved significantly allowing me to better screen for hypermobility, which ultimately completely changes your treatment style!! It was such an amazing course. I also loved the format of it being once a week and only 1.5 to 2 hours long! It allowed me to apply the knowledge I learned throughout each week! I find most courses too long in duration and my attention span is lost or its information overload and I end up retaining only a fraction of what they’ve taught us. I felt like I could really apply the material well." - Jalisa, Hypermobility Solutions Course Round 1

"Cathy is an excellent teacher and wealth of knowledge when it comes to hypermobility and working with people dealing with the complexities of HSD and EDS. This course was a great review of some of the basics AND I learned a tonne of new information, techniques, and strategies for how to better serve this population in my practice (as well as help myself manage my own health as someone living with HSD)! I would highly recommend this course for anyone working in healthcare or the movement professions - whether you know it or not, you are working with hypermobile folks and the information you will learn in this course will help you serve them, and all of your clients for that matter, better!" - Sarah, Hypermobility Solutions Course Round 1

"Cathy Walker's Hypermobility Solutions Course is thorough and well organized. While based on recent research, it is weighted toward the practical aspects of working with this patient population and has lots of clinical pearls. Cathy is great at answering questions and speaking to real-life cases." - Rebecca, Hypermobility Solutions Course, Round 2

The instructors
Cathy Walker
BSc, MPT, CAFCI, ART
Cathy is a physiotherapist turned educator with over 10 years of experience working with hypermobile clients. Growing up as a competitive dancer, Cathy always thought that having a lot of movement to her joints was “normal.” However, after years of struggling with injuries it wasn’t until after having her son that she decided to investigate further. With researching connective tissue disorders and applying the principles she was learning in the research, most of the symptoms she had been struggling with were improving. Cathy started reading more hypermobility books, research, and taking courses but often they lacked a practical compentent of what to do in clinic. That is why Cathy strives to inform clinicians how to treat hypermobility practically with techniques you can try right away.
